Summary:
This position is responsible for the financial and management accounting function for the company. The role includes assisting with the implementation of financial controls and contributing to ongoing efficiency improvements in all business areas. The incumbent will interact directly with senior and operational managers across all functional areas.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the full management accounting function, ensuring accounting records are valid, complete, accurate, and correctly classified.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting and corporate policies and ensure that entries are recorded according to policies and accounting standards.
- Take ownership of balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow.
- Prepare weekly and monthly operational and management reports.
- Provide relevant, accurate, and timely financial information for decision-making, planning, cost control, and performance evaluation. Analyze profit or loss and variances, studying factors influencing efficiency to assist in decision-making.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for cost reduction.
- Interpret financial information by collecting and analyzing data.
- Ensure the costing system is robust, compliant, and accurate, supporting current and future growth. Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies and make necessary adjustments to the costing system.
- Document systems, policies, and procedures for all business cycles. Review and improve business processes and procedures, ensuring internal controls are effective.
- Ensure stock balances are valid, complete, and accurate, and that accounting records reflect the true value of inventory through regular stock takes and evaluations of costing.
- Monitor processes and controls effectively on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Prepare forecasts and budgets according to business requirements and corporate deliverables.
- Conduct year-end statutory reporting and liaise with auditors, ensuring clean audit reports (internal and external) with no serious findings.
- Assist FD, FM, and Senior Management with various ad-hoc functions.
- Improve month-end processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA) or a master's degree (either attained or in progress).
- Significant experience in the resources sector is desirable.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong commitment, leadership, management, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Portuguese.
- Team player capable of working effectively and productively with other managers in a diverse cultural environment.
- Experience managing financial and commercial issues in a rapidly growing operational environment.
- An autonomous, self-disciplined individual guided by corporate strategy and directives.
- Strongly oriented with a clear determination to succeed.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with all staff.
